Soft Deck Standup Boards for flatwater and downwinders. (Larger Boards)
Soft Deck boards are best for kids, dogs and anybody that doesn't want the maintenance of board wax or the added expense of deck pads. Larger boards track well and are faster on flat water. They are also great in the surf, especially for big guys. The Mistral Pacifico has optional handles that you can screw on the front tip of the board for easier handling in surf. This makes a huge difference if you are learning, smaller, or a woman (because women are often smaller). Soft deck boards are less expensive than gloss deck boards because the manufacturer doesn't ad the gloss coat.

Full Gloss boards have gorgeous color and graphics and they
look hot on top of your ride. Larger boards track well and are
faster on flat water. They are also great in the surf,
especially for big guys. You'll need to use board wax or apply
deck pads to prevent slipping.

Gerry Lopez surfboards are pure art. The shapes are no-nonsense
function and derived from an heritage of experience thats
unprecedented. It's rare that an athlete, performing at the
pinnacle of their sport, also has the mastery to design and
hand shape the equipment.
Gerry has stacks of surfboard orders from around the world and
it takes months of planning to get one. I've teased about him
ever getting around to make us some standup paddle boards. I
think we're very fortunate to have Gerry share with us what he
rides, that's aloha!
I talked with Gerry about the new standup paddle surf boards,
here's the short interview:
- The two standup paddle boards you shaped are a 9'6" and a 10'2", why the two sizes?
(I usually split light/heavy at 170#, I think this applies here
too)
- What type of standup paddle surfing are these boards meant for, they don't look like the noseriders in your longboard shapes?

Originally shaped as a big surfboard, the 12ft. Soft Top is an inexpensive (comparatively) board that you can use to Standup Paddle. It's tippier than our other boards, so it's best for light weight paddlers or children. Hard rails are higher performance in the waves and resistant to paddle damage. Soft rails feel softer when you hit them but are cut-up by paddle dings. Eventually with enough damage, the dings will cause drag. It's your call.

density EVA foam is laminated along the rail right at the spot
where paddles tend to dent and ding boards. The PaddleGuard can
