Winter 2008 Schedule, ONGOING:
Contact Randall Barna and get on his email list. He and his buddies (guys & gals are invited) have a goal to paddle the Deschutes River every month of the year. Note the white lump on the left side of this photo. It's Mt. Bachelor covered in January snows. That mountain is part of the Cascade Range that feeds water into this VERY cold river. Despite the craziness of this group, they do have standards. They only paddle if the air temp is 32F or above. They tried it at colder temps, but the ice build-up made loading the boards on the cars hazardous. Hard to believe that a bunch of paddlers fresh off a Winter river filled with lava rock boulders and submerged tree trunks are worried, but hey, Safety First! For our event schedule.

Randall Barna had the first windsurfing school in Oregon in the
1980's. He was also one of the group of Oregon surfers that
pioneered surfing the Oregon coast in the 1960's and 1970's --
before the invention of warm wetsuits! He knows what conditions
are like on lakes and rivers at low and high elevations, and
what is best for surf. You can trust his advice for Flat water
